Point cloud, the most important data format for 3D environmental perception, is naturally endowed with strong radial symmetry. In this work, we exploit this radial symmetry via a divide-and-conquer strategy to boost 3D perception performance and ease optimization. We propose Azimuth Normalization (AziNorm), which normalizes the point clouds along the radial direction and eliminates the variability brought by the difference of azimuth. AziNorm can be flexibly incorporated into most LiDAR-based perception methods.","authors_text":"Chang Huang, Qian Zhang, Shaoyu Chen, Tianheng Cheng, Wenqiang Zhang, Wenyu Liu, Xinggang Wang","cross_cats":[],"headline":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.CV","submitted_at":"2022-03-24T14:29:34Z","title":"AziNorm: Exploiting the Radial Symmetry of Point Cloud for Azimuth-Normalized 3D Perception"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2203.13090","kind":"arxiv","version":1},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:f5c4633987d347285c27fe2a9b165e94ff770e1800540157f2556ae33d4e7cb8","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T04:08:20Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"b2ce4e85639b1a33a94e6d44d260f52126f7d2dcdbb94e4584139e8d764688ea","cross_cats_sorted":[],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/","primary_cat":"cs.CV","submitted_at":"2022-03-24T14:29:34Z","title_canon_sha256":"4eba489a2f15a5e54e6bcec48ca62c8b21adc691f36e860aecbe71cb9c7b71ce"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2203.13090","kind":"arxiv","version":1}},"canonical_sha256":"4efe7a98b2c25c29c9d8459a49dd9af21db26b964e5ce1788e8166bce43392ac","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"4efe7a98b2c25c29c9d8459a49dd9af21db26b964e5ce1788e8166bce43392ac","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T04:08:20.423458Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T04:08:20.423458Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"/GQKjA5+XUsCRbwHhhY2aXAvge3tTFcmqlO1UTkb98B8zvUmNYvAm1CIuYFy54af2F2U1tdEEH/O/japJ2TDDA==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T04:08:20.423860Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2203.13090","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":1}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:f5c4633987d347285c27fe2a9b165e94ff770e1800540157f2556ae33d4e7cb8","sha256:cdff85f980bd9b112df2f7f6c2b32fed23ae86cd13018a7404cacaf632471d75"],"state_sha256":"ca43db9d8001470479efa0cdbbee1d810f3f00295c90786a522bc04adc67474d"}
