Our main finding is that the presence of a symmetric (Rashba type) spin-orbit coupling spontaneously induces counterflowing mass currents in the vicinity of the trap edge, i.e. $\\uparrow$ and $\\downarrow$ particles circulate in opposite directions with equal speed.
