Our treatment accounts for collisional charging by electrons and ions, photoelectric charging due to a background interstellar radiation field, the collection of suprathermal cosmic ray electrons and photoelectric emission due to a cosmic ray induced ultraviolet radiation field within dense molecular clouds.
