Depending on the coupling strength and a phase shift parameter, related to cerebral blood flow and GABA concentration, respectively, we numerically identify three macroscopic phases: unsynchronized, synchronized, and chaotic dynamics. These correspond to physiological background-, epileptic seizure-, and resting-state cortical activity, respectively.
