If the coupling $H(\\phi)$ between curvature and dilaton $\\phi $ is non-monotonic, backreaction can remove the classical singularity. As a result, an everywhere regular star-like configuration may appear, in which case the Boulware state, contrary to expectations, smooths out the system.
