The method involves finite subtractions of dimensionally regularized diagrams beyond the standard $\\bar{\\rm MS}$ scheme of chiral perturbation theory to remove contributions violating the power counting. This is achieved by a suitable renormalization of the parameters of the most general effective Lagrangian.
