The polyene chain is modeled by the Pariser-Parr-Pople Hamiltonian with dimerized nearest-neighbor parameter $t_{0}(1+\\delta)$ for short bonds and $t_{0}(1-\\delta)$ for long bonds, and long-range electron-electron interactions.
