The observed quark mass and mixing pattern is caused by the $Z_{4}$ and $Z_{12}$ symmetries, which are broken at very high scale by the $SU(5)$ scalar singlets $\\sigma $ and $\\chi $, charged respectively under these symmetries and which acquire VEVs at the GUT scale.
