Experimental searches for the CME in relativistic heavy ion collisions via the charge-dependent azimuthal correlator ($\\Delta\\gamma$) suffer from large backgrounds arising from particle correlations (e.g. due to resonance decays) coupled with the elliptic anisotropy.
