Partial-wave amplitudes for the $\\gamma\\, N$ and $\\pi N$ states are obtained by an analytic extrapolation of subthreshold reaction amplitudes computed in chiral perturbation theory, where the constraints set by electromagnetic-gauge invariance, causality and unitarity are used to stabilize the extrapolation.
