For a specific but physically important class of dynamical systems, we show that purely classical and exotic objects, so-called canard solutions, are shadows of instantons in the corresponding quantum system. We demonstrate that canard solutions exist in a domain of parameter space whose boundaries are determined by an instanton action. We illustrate our statements analytically for the relevant example, the overdamped Josephson junction, ","authors_text":"Artem Alexandrov","cross_cats":["cond-mat.stat-mech","math.DS","quant-ph"],"headline":"","license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"nlin.PS","submitted_at":"2026-08-01T10:33:16Z","title":"Duck hunting with quantum mechanics"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2608.00579","kind":"arxiv","version":1},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:a8ff6e38e9cf1dc8d9d712318d1560957b03e87571a63b4a900388cc1a1c5e62","target":"record","created_at":"2026-08-04T00:37:30Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"c792dd69c5331f2ce82818f77e59cd34ddd2dc78cb9efa0f71dde80cd890240b","cross_cats_sorted":["cond-mat.stat-mech","math.DS","quant-ph"],"license":"http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/","primary_cat":"nlin.PS","submitted_at":"2026-08-01T10:33:16Z","title_canon_sha256":"85e53ce9e86b5c93d39ac3f0c82e61c2e5e6124c50d7228a64e6a99e64c9f670"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2608.00579","kind":"arxiv","version":1}},"canonical_sha256":"b7a414b451253a01374ba52d8cde932fec8b97b2c4ee53a77f53c9a24d989bbc","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"b7a414b451253a01374ba52d8cde932fec8b97b2c4ee53a77f53c9a24d989bbc","first_computed_at":"2026-08-04T00:37:30.746271Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-08-04T00:37:30.746271Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"LFJGsZBHkFN4IQ4wQyzAwOmk0SM+9wfoyb0/uK6zBrq7Hm2ksmDtGqjLCSPlSC6iiLOqXUY//bOBMbSg70TxCQ==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-08-04T00:37:30.748209Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2608.00579","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":1}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:a8ff6e38e9cf1dc8d9d712318d1560957b03e87571a63b4a900388cc1a1c5e62","sha256:af7340b365fd8c62e0d2f868e7bc51234c15b71ba65677ec3180ec5bf5e908c2"],"state_sha256":"9bd1707ff43f025f10345d6df4ff0e8ad1638d49c0e7af952dfc0d9943c56fae"}
