To leading order in the coupling constant, $\\sqrt\\alpha$, the ground state energy is shown to be correctly given by the minimum of the Pekar functional including the electromagnetic fields, provided these fields in the Fr\\\"ohlich model are scaled properly with $\\alpha$.
