We obtain a Noether's theorem for Lagrangian systems with external forces, among other results regarding symmetries and conserved quantities. We particularize our results for the so-called Rayleigh dissipation, i.e., external forces that are derived from a dissipation function, and illustrate them with some examples. Moreover, we present a theory for the reduction of Lagrangian systems subjected to external forces which are invariant under the action of a Lie group.","authors_text":"Asier L\\'opez-Gord\\'on, Manuel de Le\\'on, Manuel Lainz","cross_cats":["math.MP","math.SG","physics.class-ph"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math-ph","submitted_at":"2021-01-22T10:21:10Z","title":"Symmetries, constants of the motion and reduction of mechanical systems with external forces"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2101.09036","kind":"arxiv","version":2},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:cc2fd17ba0f89594ccd171ff70d8627b66d0c498767d674fe0053a0af3cc5c78","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T04:14:23Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"8c817f54c77b80a9ad3ebe7e725902d65169e4494cbd1fd160504c09d13af07d","cross_cats_sorted":["math.MP","math.SG","physics.class-ph"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"math-ph","submitted_at":"2021-01-22T10:21:10Z","title_canon_sha256":"9d449a24c43ec592c0fb47784423192221009ed285a481a785dc1577164db3d4"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2101.09036","kind":"arxiv","version":2}},"canonical_sha256":"cc76f6a8afeef91bfa0b53bc77b7429ef319d82d083394d4b95f5cf252379a04","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"cc76f6a8afeef91bfa0b53bc77b7429ef319d82d083394d4b95f5cf252379a04","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T04:14:23.364322Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T04:14:23.364322Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"/9V9OmLKPe9UTnJhrSM6OIOscbnDjHcTzAArsgH8vN6iIJGOM66k1P3bAvPCZIcTv4VUwDWBQc+lLo3FqGPEAQ==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T04:14:23.364782Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2101.09036","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":2}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:cc2fd17ba0f89594ccd171ff70d8627b66d0c498767d674fe0053a0af3cc5c78","sha256:fee2e06124c8959b851cfd41e86117df287aacee6a8f2175378bbc1c63635c18"],"state_sha256":"05721146f5a276812e49b643aa165428a01fcc54a9f182b434839a347b5ef3be"}
