Because of this Rydberg ions confined in electric fields have state-dependent trapping potentials. We engineer a Rydberg state that is insensitive to electric fields by coupling two Rydberg states with static polarizabilities of opposite sign, in this way we achieve state-independent magic trapping. We show that the magically-trapped ion can be coherently excited to the Rydberg state without the need for control of the ion's motion.","authors_text":"Chi Zhang, Fabian Pokorny, Gerard Higgins, Markus Hennrich","cross_cats":["quant-ph"],"headline":"","license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"physics.atom-ph","submitted_at":"2020-05-25T21:57:31Z","title":"Magic trapping of a Rydberg ion with a diminished static polarizability"},"references":{"count":0,"internal_anchors":0,"resolved_work":0,"sample":[],"snapshot_sha256":"258153158e38e3291e3d48162225fcdb2d5a3ed65a07baac614ab91432fd4f57"},"source":{"id":"2005.12422","kind":"arxiv","version":1},"verdict":{"created_at":null,"id":null,"model_set":{},"one_line_summary":"","pipeline_version":null,"pith_extraction_headline":"","strongest_claim":"","weakest_assumption":""}},"verdict_id":null}}],"author_attestations":[],"timestamp_anchors":[],"storage_attestations":[],"citation_signatures":[],"replication_records":[],"corrections":[],"mirror_hints":[],"record_created":{"event_id":"sha256:057175d88345566ca1ce33c7cd5335c9c31f56d39a612f1edde4c580eebfa5d8","target":"record","created_at":"2026-07-05T01:05:54Z","signer":{"key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","signer_id":"pith.science","signer_type":"pith_registry"},"payload":{"attestation_state":"computed","canonical_record":{"metadata":{"abstract_canon_sha256":"044caef6f2d6e3ea8d0cdc4f6396d2098710ae7257ddc5ed2e1b9d031315852f","cross_cats_sorted":["quant-ph"],"license":"http://arxiv.org/licenses/nonexclusive-distrib/1.0/","primary_cat":"physics.atom-ph","submitted_at":"2020-05-25T21:57:31Z","title_canon_sha256":"cff975fe500a1e88d3b1689c00135ffc8d0249e0510d15c72d337f03966ed9ba"},"schema_version":"1.0","source":{"id":"2005.12422","kind":"arxiv","version":1}},"canonical_sha256":"cce8b4ffc5422ac7c899b4a23e710fcf1c85c2f83616dd421493d652aadcf493","receipt":{"algorithm":"ed25519","builder_version":"pith-number-builder-2026-05-17-v1","canonical_sha256":"cce8b4ffc5422ac7c899b4a23e710fcf1c85c2f83616dd421493d652aadcf493","first_computed_at":"2026-07-05T01:05:54.056915Z","key_id":"pith-v1-2026-05","kind":"pith_receipt","last_reissued_at":"2026-07-05T01:05:54.056915Z","public_key_fingerprint":"8d4b5ee74e4693bcd1df2446408b0d54","receipt_version":"0.3","signature_b64":"d6W6UKNXy5nMLEBpZOQLbduMas8PHsCdwd/m0prKOp1iisS15RQjwtzMS8/NqkI9m7uc46dLGldzuSt1fWdtBg==","signature_status":"signed_v1","signed_at":"2026-07-05T01:05:54.057471Z","signed_message":"canonical_sha256_bytes"},"source_id":"2005.12422","source_kind":"arxiv","source_version":1}}},"equivocations":[],"invalid_events":[],"applied_event_ids":["sha256:057175d88345566ca1ce33c7cd5335c9c31f56d39a612f1edde4c580eebfa5d8","sha256:e558a7b718a060185ab252bb15eb152c7ea4ce7666c032777a386e25ce678914"],"state_sha256":"da98428ceb54d3be86a51121249ef991d963c7c54ef73eb98c801ab68081a958"}
