Scalar-channel quasinormal modes of the planar AdS5 black brane are captured across all wave numbers by exact WKB quantisation, transseries resummation, and Seiberg–Witten analytic continuation, with resummed large-q predictions matching independent numerics to ten to thirty decimal places.

abstract
We find quasinormal modes of near extremal black branes by solving a singular boundary value problem for the Heun equation. The corresponding eigenvalues determine the dispersion law for the collective excitations in the dual strongly coupled N=4 SYM at finite temperature.

Semi-holographic systems with perturbative and holographic sectors exhibit prethermal time crystals through dissipationless modes in hydrodynamic channels plus short-wavelength instabilities that produce inhomogeneities over a wide temperature range.
Quasinormal modes are eigenmodes of dissipative gravitational systems whose spectra encode near-equilibrium transport coefficients in dual quantum field theories and enable tests of general relativity through gravitational wave observations.
This review surveys calculations and interpretations of quasinormal modes for black holes in astrophysics, higher dimensions, and holographic duals without presenting new results.
