abstract

These lecture notes are intended for starting PhD students in theoretical physics who have a working knowledge of General Relativity. The 4 topics covered are (1) Surface charges as conserved quantities in theories of gravity; (2) Classical and holographic features of three-dimensional Einstein gravity; (3) Asymptotically flat spacetimes in 4 dimensions: BMS group and memory effects; (4) The Kerr black hole: properties at extremality and quasi-normal mode ringing. Each topic starts with historical foundations and points to a few modern research directions.

Particle detector in a position-superposed black hole spacetime

quant-ph · 2026-04-13 · unverdicted · novelty 7.0

An Unruh-DeWitt detector interacting with a position-superposed BTZ black hole produces outcome probabilities containing a nonclassical contribution that distinguishes quantum superposition from classical mixtures, arising from singularities in the probed spectrum.

The BEF Symplectic Form: A Lagrangian Perspective

hep-th · 2026-04-08 · unverdicted · novelty 7.0

The BEF symplectic form is derived from L∞-Lagrangians via covariant phase space methods and coincides with the Barnich-Brandt form for second-order equations of motion.

Strings near BTZ black holes: A Carrollian Chronicle

hep-th · 2025-10-17 · unverdicted · novelty 6.0

The paper classifies families of closed bosonic string solutions in the near-horizon non-extremal BTZ spacetime and identifies novel features via string-Carroll expansion.
