abstract
We discuss recent developments in the hydrodynamic description of strongly coupled conformal field theories using the AdS/CFT correspondence. In particular, we review aspects of the fluid-gravity correspondence which provides a map between a class of inhomogeneous, dynamical, black hole solutions in asymptotically AdS spacetimes and arbitrary fluid flows in the strongly interacting boundary field theory. We explain how the geometric duals to the fluid dynamics are constructed in a boundary derivative expansion and use the construction to extract the hydrodynamic transport coefficients. In addition we also describe the recent developments extending the correspondence to incorporate matter fields and to non-relativistic systems. Based on lectures given at the CERN Winter School on Supergravity, Strings and Gauge Theories, Geneva, Switzerland (February 2009).

Conjecture reducing bulk loop discontinuity integrals in black hole Schwinger-Keldysh geometry to exterior real-time finite-temperature loop integrals, checked at one to three loops for low-point functions.
Establishes a holographic link between bulk gravitational radiation and dissipative corrections plus entropy production in boundary fluids, then constructs Carrollian analogues and celestial observables in the flat limit.
In the diagonal (Cartan) sector of AdS3 gravity, the radial flow of the quasi-local stress tensor satisfies an exact T Tbar-like equation, while the boundary time evolution forms an integrable bi-Hamiltonian hierarchy.
Develops a holographic realization of approximate higher-form symmetries via massive antisymmetric tensor fields and derives dualities between boundary theories from bulk Hodge dualities, including constraints on current-current correlators for self-dual cases.
Constructs supersymmetric perfect fluid equations for N=2 conformal Newton-Hooke and N=1 l-conformal Galilei superalgebras using Hamiltonian methods with anticommuting superpartner fields for density and velocity.
Exact solutions to perfect fluid equations are built via invariance under Schrödinger, l-conformal Galilei, or Lifshitz groups, producing Bjorken-like velocity fields with tunable high-density peaks.
Spacetime-symmetry-breaking Goldstone EFTs systematically describe bulk and localized excitations of solids, fluids, and superfluids, with new thermodynamic identifications and corrected scattering rates.
