A new high-field magnetic phase unique to the ac-plane of β-Li₂IrO₃ is discovered and shown to arise from Γ-exchange-mediated coupling between ferromagnetic and zigzag order parameters, preempting the polarized state.
As shown in this graph, as we decrease the field, both eigenvalues remain positive for all field strengths, so there is no intermediate phase
