In our paper, we construct a real-algebraic function whose Reeb (Kronrod-Reeb) graph is a graph respecting some algebraic domain: a graph for this is called Poincar\'e-Reeb graph. The Reeb graph of a smooth function is defined as a natural graph which is the quotient space of the manifold of the domain under a natural equivalence relation for some wide and nice class of smooth functions. The vertex set is defined as the set of all connected components containing some singular points of the function: a singular point of a smooth function is a point where the differential vanishes. Morse-Bott functions give very specific cases. The relation is to contract each connected component of each preimage to a point. Sharko has asked a natural and important problem: can we construct a nice smooth function whose Reeb graph is a given graph? Explicit answers have been given first by Masumoto-Saeki in a generalized manner for closed surfaces. After that various answers have been presented by various researchers and most of them are essentially for functions on closed surfaces and Morse functions such that connected components of preimages containing no singular points are spheres. Recently the author has also considered questions and solved in cases the preimages are general manifolds.

  1. Arrangements of circles supported by small chords and compatible with natural real algebraic functions

    math.AG 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

SSC-NI arrangements are defined, and a complete classification of local Poincaré-Reeb V-digraph changes under chord-supported circle additions is asserted, with an example not realizable by the previous MBCC class.

  2. Arrangements of small circles for Morse-Bott functions

    math.AG 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The paper classifies the local changes to Poincaré-Reeb graphs caused by adding small circles centered on existing circles, for circle arrangements associated with Morse-Bott functions.

  3. Compactifying real analytic functions and resulting Reeb spaces

    math.AG 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

  4. Fundamental examples of height functions on closed manifolds and their 1st derivatives

    math.DG 2026-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

For closed manifolds obtained by mixing two spheres and a real curve, the paper classifies the critical sets of the height function and of its newly introduced first-derivative function.

  5. Regions represented as foliated forms and natural smooth maps onto them

    math.AG 2026-07 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

For certain smoothly foliated regions, explicit submanifolds are built whose first-coordinate projection has no critical points, and the critical set of the induced derivative is computed in an explicit two-dimensiona...

  6. Graphs with tree decompositions of small graphs and realizing them as the Reeb graphs of real algebraic functions

    math.AG 2025-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10
