Motivated by an updated compilation of observational Hubble data (OHD) which consist of 51 points in the redshift range 0.07<z<2.36, we study an interesting model known as Cardassian which drives the late cosmic acceleration without a dark energy component. Our compilation contains 31 data points measured with the differential age method by Jimenez & Loeb, and 20 data points obtained from clustering of galaxies. We focus on two modified Friedmann equations: the original Cardassian (OC) expansion and the modified polytropic Cardassian (MPC). The dimensionless Hubble, E(z), and the deceleration parameter, q(z), are revisited in order to constraint the OC and MPC free parameters, first with the OHD and then contrasted with modern observations of SN Ia using the compressed and full joint-light-analysis samples. We also perform a joint analysis using the combination OHD plus compressed JLA. Our results show that the OC and MPC models are in agreement with the standard cosmology and naturally introduce a cosmological-constant-like extra term in the canonical Friedmann equation with the capability of accelerating the Universe without dark energy.

  1. Observational implications of Wald-Gauss-Bonnet topological dark energy

    gr-qc 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Wald-Gauss-Bonnet topological dark energy is viable against late-universe data but statistically loses to ΛCDM, and its perturbations are nearly indistinguishable from ΛCDM.

  2. de Sitter duality and logarithmic decay of dark energy

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Quantum infrared fluctuations of the conformal mode screen g=G_N H^2/pi with beta(g)=-(1/2)g^2, predicting logarithmic decay of dark energy and a UV fixed point at minimal entropy S=2.

  3. Little ado about everything II: an `emergent' dark energy from structure formation to rule cosmic tensions

    astro-ph.CO 2025-02 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

An ensemble-averaged stochastic cosmology with a 'little ado' noise term produces an emergent dark energy that fits late-time data and claims to relieve the H0 and f sigma8 tensions.

  4. Gaussian Process Estimation of Transition Redshift

    astro-ph.CO 2019-08 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

From Hubble parameter and Type Ia supernova data, Gaussian Process reconstruction places the cosmic deceleration-to-acceleration transition at z_t ≈ 0.59 and z_t ≈ 0.68, respectively.

  5. The distance modulus in dark energy and Cardassian cosmologies via the hypergeometric function

    astro-ph.CO 2019-09 reject novelty 2.0 of 10

A closed-form hypergeometric and Taylor treatment of dark-energy and Cardassian distance integrals is fitted to SN and GRB data, but the key integral identity and the data treatment are flawed.
