abstract

The large discrepancy between the amount of baryons that were synthesized in Big-Bang and that we detect at $z=0$ locked in stars inside galaxies and in hot/cold gas in galaxies. goup and clusters, is a well known crucial issue for present day cosmology. It is also thought that this riddle is at the backbone of how the ordinary matter has formed, inside dark potential wells, the structures we see today. Then, it is useful to reprint, by means of this archive, the first (pre- astro-ph era) published work in which the amount of "luminous" baryons was actually and suitably computed and the disagreement with the BBN predictions strongly claimed. This because 12 years after the method and the results are still up-to-date, and above all, people are occasionally found to know only later works (appeared on astro-ph) that were meant to be just (ours or other's) follow ups of the present paper.

  1. Modeling transport in weakly collisional plasmas using thermodynamic forcing

    physics.plasm-ph 2025-04 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

Thermodynamic forcing lets particle-in-cell simulations mimic macroscopic gradient-driven anisotropies in homogeneous boxes, reproducing known whistler and firehose instabilities and revealing firehose-led heat flux s...

  2. Tracing cosmic gas in filaments and halos: Low-redshift insights from the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect

    astro-ph.CO 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A 4-sigma kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich quadrupole detection shows gas around low-redshift galaxy groups is aligned with cosmic filaments, the first such kSZ measurement.

  3. Two new highly scattered fast radio bursts: evidence for scatter broadening by the circumsource medium

    astro-ph.HE 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

FRB240312D is the first highly scattered FRB whose scattering screen is localized to within about 8 pc of the source, with the two new bursts implying a rate consistent with shorter FRBs.
