Using advanced lattice methods in Quantum Chromodynamics, three distinct scales are established in the excitation spectrum of the gluon field around a static quark-antiquark pair as the color source separation R is varied. On the shortest length scale, the excitations are consistent with states created by local gluon field operators arising from a multipole operator product expansion. An intermediate crossover region below 2 fm is identified with a dramatic rearrangement of the level orderings. On the largest length scale of 2-3 fm, the spectrum agrees with that expected for string-like excitations. The energies nearly reproduce asymptotic pi/R string gaps, but exhibit a fine structure, providing important clues for developing an effective bosonic string description.

    hep-lat 2026-02 unverdicted novelty 7.0 of 10

Neural networks parametrize gauge-invariant interpolators that extract ground-state Wilson loops with improved signal-to-noise ratio compared to traditional methods while preserving gauge invariance.

  3. QCD spin effects in the heavy hybrid potentials and spectra

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Nonperturbative spin-dependent hybrid potentials are expressed as gluonic correlators, fitted to charmonium lattice data, and used to predict bottomonium hybrid spectra.

  4. Quarkoniumlike states above open-flavor thresholds in Born-Oppenheimer EFT

    hep-ph 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A QCD-constrained Born-Oppenheimer calculation organizes most observed quarkoniumlike states above open-flavor thresholds into heavy-quark-spin-symmetry multiplets and predicts a shallow X_b.

  5. The spectrum of open confining strings in the large-Nc limit

    hep-lat 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The open flux-tube spectrum in SU(Nc) for Nc=3 to 6 shows massive axion-like states whose lightest mass, extrapolated to large Nc, is consistent with the worldsheet axion mass of the closed flux tube.

  6. Lattice QCD study of color correlations between static quarks with gluonic excitations

    hep-lat 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

    Excited hybrid quark-antiquark channels are color-octet at short distance and exponentially relax to random color, with screening masses ordered B(Σ_g^+) ~ B(Π_u) < B(Π_u') ~ B(Δ_g) < B(Δ_g') < B(Σ_g^+').

  7. $\boldsymbol{\chi_{c1}}(3872)$ and its Partners in the Diabatic Born-Oppenheimer Approximation for QCD

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

χ_c1(3872) is treated as a bound state in adjoint-meson Born-Oppenheimer potentials within a diabatic model, with calculated spin splittings and decay widths for its multiplet and bottom analogs after tuning to threshold.

  8. Revisiting charmonium hybrid spectroscopy

    hep-ph 2026-02 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

The lowest charmonium hybrid multiplet is predicted at 4.19–4.32 GeV: the 0^-+ and 1^-+ are narrow, while the 1^-- and 2^-+ decay near the DD1 and DD2* thresholds.

  9. The Pattern of Exotic Hidden-Heavy Hadrons Revealed

    hep-ph 2025-07 reject novelty 3.0 of 10

Exotic hidden-heavy hadrons are proposed as near-threshold bound states and resonances in Born-Oppenheimer potentials that are repulsive at short range and cross the heavy-hadron-pair threshold.

  10. Spin Structure of heavy-quark hybrids

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 2.0 of 10

Heavy-quark hybrid spin splittings are fitted to charmonium lattice data and extrapolated to bottomonium, and hadronic transitions are computed with hybrid intermediate states, in a review of the author's earlier work.
