BAO data alone are able to rule out dark-energy-free models at more than eight standard deviations in an extension to the flat LambdaCDM model that allows for curvature; when combined with Planck CMB the BAO data provide nearly an order of magnitude improvement on curvature constraints.

The analysis assumes that the sound horizon rd is accurately predicted by early-universe physics and that the spectroscopic samples have no significant unaccounted systematics in their clustering measurements.
