In the considered parameter range, increasing interaction strength U strongly suppresses interband contributions through the enlarged Mott gap and correlation-induced localization.

The one-dimensional Hubbard chain with exact diagonalization and time-dependent density-matrix propagation sufficiently captures the essential physics of real three-dimensional Mott insulators under strong laser driving.
