Claims
We establish the first correlation between Δp and the threshold mass for prompt collapse. Our analysis shows that Δp ≲ 0.04 is required if GW170817 formed a long-lived remnant or has experienced a delayed collapse into a black hole.
The one-parameter polytropic family of equations of state with control parameter Δp accurately represents the range of hadron-quark phase transitions (Maxwell to Gibbs constructions) and that the resulting post-merger dynamics produce gravitational-wave signatures that are both observable and uniquely attributable to the mixed-phase extent rather than other EOS variations.
Simulations with a tunable phase-transition parameter in neutron-star equations of state produce unique post-merger gravitational-wave peaks and link Δp to the prompt-collapse mass threshold, with Δp ≲ 0.04 implied for GW170817.
