A partial group is a generalization of the concept of group recently introduced by A. Chermak. By considering partial groups as simplicial sets, we propose an extension theory for partial groups using the concept of (simplicial) fibre bundle. This way, the classical extension theory for groups naturally extends to an extension theory of partial groups. In particular, we show that the category of partial groups is closed by extensions. We also describe the cohomological obstructions for existence and uniqueness of extensions, generalizing the usual obstructions for group extensions. The second part of the paper considers extensions of (finite) localities, which are a particular type of partial group, mimicking the p-local structure of finite groups. The goal here is to give sufficient conditions for an extension of localities to produce a new locality.

  1. Binary partial groups

    math.GR 2026-03 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Binary partial groups are categorically equivalent to 2-skeletal partial groups, and embed fully faithfully into Chermak partial groups.

  2. Higher Segal spaces and partial groups

    math.GR 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The higher Segal degree of a partial groupoid equals the Helly number of the closure space of a characteristic action, and the method gives explicit degrees for punctured Weyl groups.

  3. On partial groups of small order

    math.GR 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Computer enumeration produces 123650 partial groups of order ≤9 and 178937003 of order 10, with complete lists of indecomposables of order ≤5.

  4. Partial Group Symmetry in Figures I: Semidirect Products and the Six Coins

    math.GR 2025-06 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A partial-group framework encodes symmetries of individual components of disconnected figures, with semidirect product decompositions for two-component and lattice-translate figures.
