In this survey we discuss the notion of combinatorial interpretation in the context of Algebraic Combinatorics and related areas. We approach the subject from the Computational Complexity perspective. We review many examples, state a workable definition, discuss many open problems, and present recent results on the subject.

  1. Which graph motif parameters count?

    cs.CC 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A pure graph motif parameter has a combinatorial interpretation (lies in oracle #P) if and only if all coefficients are nonnegative integers.

  2. An introduction to the symmetric group algebra

    math.CO 2025-07 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

A self-contained, proof-heavy graduate text that develops the symmetric group algebra from scratch and proves the standard basis theorem, Garnir relations, hook length formula, and Murphy cellular bases.

  3. Introduction to the Cohomology of the Flag Variety

    math.CO 2025-06 unverdicted novelty 2.0 of 10

A survey chapter presenting the cohomology of flag varieties and Schubert and Schur polynomials as the rigorous basis for solving Schubert's enumerative geometry problems.
