abstract

String theory predicts an axiverse of ultralight axions whose effects on CMB polarization, matter power spectrum, and black hole superradiance can be probed by future astrophysical experiments.
Supersymmetry can stabilize an ultralight dilaton dark matter candidate, but gravity restricts its Standard Model couplings to undetectable levels, making consistent model building involved.
Combined CMB datasets moderately tighten the allowed range for the spectral index of axion isocurvature but leave amplitude bounds for fixed indices unchanged.
A mini-review of axion phenomenology showing how light bosons can account for dark matter, drive cosmic acceleration, or contribute to relativistic backgrounds in the early and late Universe.
Review classifies QCD axion models extending the standard mass-coupling window and updates bounds from cosmology, astrophysics, and experiments.
