Growing thin SrTiO3 films on Nb-doped SrTiO3 substrates tunes the surface 2DEG band filling, and for 0.5% Nb doping the Fermi level sits in the Zeeman gap, leaving a single spin-polarized Fermi surface.
This discrepancy deserves attention, although a full explanation will probably require both further studies and input from the authors of [21]
