abstract

The k-essence theories admit in general the superluminal propagation of the perturbations on classical backgrounds. We show that in spite of the superluminal propagation the causal paradoxes do not arise in these theories and in this respect they are not less safe than General Relativity.

On the Asymptotic Causal Structure in Gravitational EFTs

hep-th · 2026-04-30 · accept · novelty 7.0

In D>4, gravitational EFTs with higher-derivative operators allow asymptotic superluminality around black holes, but in D=4 the asymptotic causal structure is identical to Schwarzschild and insensitive to corrections.

Geodesic completion of big bangs from emergent geometry

gr-qc · 2026-02-25 · unverdicted · novelty 5.0

Phantom Chaplygin gas forces the Einstein-frame lapse to change sign smoothly while the causal-frame lapse stays positive, yielding a robust non-singular bounce even with extra matter.

Modified Gravity and Cosmology

astro-ph.CO · 2011-06-13 · unverdicted · novelty 2.0

A comprehensive review of modified gravity theories and their cosmological consequences, including a parameterized post-Friedmannian formalism for constraining deviations from General Relativity.

  • Scalar emission from binary neutron stars in scalar-tensor theories with kinetic screening gr-qc · 2026-05-01 · unverdicted · none · ref 36

Kinetic screening non-monotonically suppresses or enhances scalar quadrupolar emission from equal-mass neutron star binaries depending on screening radius versus wavelength, with a dipole re-emerging linearly with mass asymmetry.

  • Dynamical system analysis of the cosmological phases in Palatini $k$-essence gravity gr-qc · 2025-11-24 · unverdicted · none · ref 57 · internal anchor

Dynamical systems analysis of a Palatini k-essence model identifies fixed points for quasi-de-Sitter epochs, scaling solutions, and quintessence phases connected by heteroclinic orbits in flat FLRW cosmology.

  • IR side of bounds on Theories with Spontaneously Broken Lorentz Symmetry hep-th · 2024-12-27 · unverdicted · none · ref 41 · internal anchor

The analysis shows that analyticity bounds in Lorentz-broken theories require gapped excitations to propagate slower than gapless ones at low momenta relative to the mass gap.
