abstract

Stochastic inflation resolves primordial perturbations non-linearly, probing their probability distribution deep into its non-Gaussian tail. The strongest perturbations collapse into primordial black holes. In typical black-hole-producing single-field inflation, the strongest stochastic kicks occur during a period of constant roll. In this paper, I solve the stochastic constant-roll system, drawing the stochastic kicks from a numerically computed power spectrum, beyond the usual de Sitter approximation. The perturbation probability distribution is an analytical function of the integrated curvature power spectrum $\sigma_k^2$ and the second slow-roll parameter $\epsilon_2$. With a large $\epsilon_2$, stochastic effects can reduce the height of the curvature power spectrum required to form asteroid mass black holes from $10^{-2}$ to $10^{-3}$. I compare these results to studies with the non-stochastic $\Delta N$ formalism.

  1. Primordial black holes forming during kination: the trapped, the overdense, and the void

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In one non-attractor inflation model, initially similar field fluctuations produce three distinct black-hole formation channels—trapped, overdense, void—with collapse thresholds determined by the full density profile,...

  2. Superhorizon curvature perturbations in hybrid inflation revisited

    astro-ph.CO 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Hybrid inflation's waterfall tachyonic instability grows isocurvature modes that convert to curvature perturbations at the field-space turn, yielding a k^{3}-peaked spectrum with always-positive f_NL that enhances PBH...

  3. A non-perturbative framework for N-point functions of locally non-Gaussian fields

    astro-ph.CO 2026-02 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

N-point functions of locally non-Gaussian fields can be expanded in powers of the Gaussian correlation function using the Kibble-Slepian decomposition, with coefficients from one-point integrals; for an exponential-ta...

  4. Deviations from Gaussian White Noise in Stochastic Inflation

    gr-qc 2025-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Relaxing the sharp cutoff or the Bunch-Davies initial state in stochastic inflation makes the noise colored, and relaxing the initial state also makes it non-Gaussian.

  5. Reconstructing Primordial Curvature Perturbations via Scalar-Induced Gravitational Waves with LISA

    astro-ph.CO 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

LISA can reconstruct the primordial curvature power spectrum from scalar-induced gravitational waves, with percent-level precision near the peak and Bayesian tests separating SIGWs from other sources.

  6. Evolution of Linear Perturbations under Time-Dependent Hubble Friction I: SR-USR-SR Inflation

    gr-qc 2026-02 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Analytic asymptotics show the dip in the SR-USR-SR curvature power spectrum comes from cancellation between two growing modes, not a constant-versus-growing cancellation.

  7. Constant-roll $\beta$-exponential inflation: Palatini formalism

    gr-qc 2026-01 reject novelty 4.0 of 10

A parameter scan of constant-roll β-exponential inflation in Palatini R² gravity claims agreement with ACT/Planck contours, but the derivation is undermined by algebraic sign errors and an absent non-Gaussianity calculation.
