We are in the process of upgrading the VERITAS array of Cherenkov telescopes with new, high efficiency photomultipliers (PMT) that will considerably lower the energy threshold of the instrument and improve the overall sensitivity. The upgrade will be finished in Summer 2012 when the PMTs will be installed in the existing cameras. We discuss the performance of the new photon detectors and the status of the project.

Augmentation of VERITAS Telescopes for Stellar Intensity Interferometry
The VERITAS telescopes now operate as a stellar intensity interferometer using high-speed PMTs, 250 MS/s continuous digitizers, and White Rabbit clock synchronization for stellar diameter measurements.
