abstract

We study induced gravity dark energy models coupled with a simple monomial potential $\propto \sigma^n$ and a positive exponent $n$. These simple potentials lead to viable dark energy models with a weak dependence on the exponent, which characterizes the accelerated expansion of the cosmological model in the asymptotic attractor, when ordinary matter becomes negligible. We use recent cosmological data to constrain the coupling $\gamma$ to the Ricci curvature, under the assumptions that the scalar field starts at rest deep in the radiation era and that the gravitational constant in the Einstein equations is compatible with the one measured in a Cavendish-like experiment. By using $Planck$ 2015 data only, we obtain the 95 % CL bound $\gamma < 0.0017$ for $n=4$, which is further tightened to $\gamma < 0.00075$ by adding Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) data. This latter bound improves by $\sim 30$ % the limit obtained with the $Planck$ 2013 data and the same compilation of BAO data. We discuss the dependence of the $\gamma$ and $\dot G_N/G_N (z=0)$ on $n$.

  1. The $H_0$ world cup. II. A comprehensive competition between proposed Hubble tension solutions

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Against a common 2025-26 dataset (Planck PR4, ACT DR6, SPT-3G, DESI DR2, Pantheon+), early dark energy and early modified gravity models win the H0 competition (~3σ residual tension), while radiation and late-time sol...

  2. Scalar-Tensor Gravity and DESI 2024 BAO data

    astro-ph.CO 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

With Planck and DESI BAO data, the Brans-Dicke Galileon model prefers a nonzero Galileon term and yields H0 = 71.0 +1.5 -1.3 km/s/Mpc, consistent with SH0ES at 1.2 sigma.

  3. hi_class: Background Evolution, Initial Conditions and Approximation Schemes

    astro-ph.CO 2019-09 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

hi_class now evolves the background from covariant Horndeski Lagrangians, provides consistent radiation-era initial conditions for scalar perturbations, and applies a quasi-static approximation automatically where it is safe.

  4. Investigating a Possible Variation of the Gravitational Constant Through Gas Mass Fraction Measurements and Type Ia Supernovae Observations

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.5 of 10

Non-parametric reconstruction of G(z) from cluster f_gas and Pantheon+ under L∝G^1.46 finds constant G consistent, with only mild low-z departures allowed.

  5. The $H_0$ World Cup. I. Summary of the baseline group stage results

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

In a systematic head-to-head analysis, early dark energy and early modified gravity models reduce the Hubble tension to about 3σ and are favored over ΛCDM, while radiation and late-time alternatives are not.

  6. An overview of what current data can (and cannot yet) say about evolving dark energy

    astro-ph.CO 2025-02 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

The apparent preference for evolving dark energy depends strongly on which supernova catalog and which BAO survey are used, and is not robust across all independent data combinations.
