We revisit the recent limits from LHCb on a Majorana neutrino N in the mass range 250 - 5000 MeV. These limits are among the best currently available, and they will be improved soon by the addition of data from Run 2 of the LHC. LHCb presented a model-independent constraint on the rate of like-sign leptonic decays, and then derived a constraint on the mixing angle V{\mu}4 based on a theoretical model for the B decay width to N and the N lifetime. The model used is unfortunately unsound. We revise the conclusions of the paper based on a decay model similar to the one used for the tau lepton and provide formulae useful for future analyses.

  1. A frequentist analysis of three right-handed neutrinos with GAMBIT

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A comprehensive frequentist global fit maps the currently allowed mass and mixing space for three right-handed neutrinos between 60 MeV and 500 GeV and finds no significant new physics.

  2. Displaced heavy neutrinos from $Z'$ decays at the LHC

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Displaced vertex searches at the HL-LHC could probe heavy neutrino mixings down to |V_lN|^2 ~ 10^-17 for Z'-produced neutrinos in U(1)_X and U(1)_{B-L} models.

  3. Sensitivity of Lepton Number Violating Meson Decays in Different Experiments

    hep-ph 2019-08 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

For 0.14 to 6 GeV heavy neutrinos, accounting for the parent meson's velocity weakens projected LNV meson decay sensitivities by one to two orders of magnitude at NA62 and SHiP.
