We discuss features of the inflaton potential that can lead to a strong enhancement of the power spectrum of curvature perturbations. We show that a steep decrease of the potential induces an enhancement of the spectrum by several orders of magnitude, which may lead to the production of primordial black holes. The same feature can also create a distinctive oscillatory pattern in the spectrum of gravitational waves generated through the scalar perturbations at second order. We study the additive effect of several such features. We analyse a simplified potential, but also discuss the possible application to supergravity models.

How deep is the dip and how tall are the wiggles in inflationary power spectra?
In single-field PBH inflation models, a power-spectrum dip appears precisely when the inflaton velocity does not flip sign, and the peak amplitude scales as the inverse square of the dip amplitude.

Reconstructing Primordial Curvature Perturbations via Scalar-Induced Gravitational Waves with LISA
LISA can reconstruct the primordial curvature power spectrum from scalar-induced gravitational waves, with percent-level precision near the peak and Bayesian tests separating SIGWs from other sources.

Potential Surge Preheating: enhanced resonance from potential features
Localized Gaussian features added to the quadratic inflaton potential near its minimum enhance preheating and can drive the equation of state to a radiation-like value, leaving distinctive gravitational wave and Neff ...

Primordial Black Hole Formation from the Upward Step Model: Avoiding Overproduction
In upward-step inflation, a non-Gaussian cutoff in curvature perturbations sharply suppresses type-I primordial black hole abundance for h above about 5.9, easing PTA overproduction constraints.
