We present a method that may allow an estimate of the value of the speed of sound as well as its logarithmic derivative with respect to the baryon number density in matter created in heavy-ion collisions. To this end, we utilize well-known observables: cumulants of the baryon number distribution. In analyses aimed at uncovering the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter, cumulants gather considerable attention as their qualitative behaviour along the explored range of collision energies is expected to aid in detecting the QCD critical point. We show that the cumulants may also reveal the behavior of the speed of sound in the temperature and baryon chemical potential plane. We demonstrate the applicability of such estimates within two models of nuclear matter, and explore what might be understood from known experimental data.

Gaussian non relativistic spontaneously stochastic hydrodynamics
The paper proposes that non-relativistic incompressible hydrodynamics is the infrared limit of a Gaussian stochastic theory, with compressible-scale counterterms generating spontaneous stochasticity and anomalous dissipation.

Density dependent speed of sound and its consequences in neutron stars
A three-parameter speed-of-sound model reproduces relativistic mean-field neutron-star equations of state and produces curvature and trace-anomaly sign changes without any phase transition.

Can average speed of sound and thermodynamic response functions signal the exotic phases in neutron star cores?
Average speed of sound, its logarithmic derivative, and thermodynamic response functions distinguish sharp-interface versus mixed-phase hadron-quark transitions inside hybrid neutron stars.

Isentropic thermodynamics across the hadron-quark mixed phase in a two-phase model with a PNJL quark description
In a two-phase RMF+PNJL model, isentropic trajectories through the hadron-quark mixed phase heat at low entropy per baryon and cool near the critical end point, with entropy-dependent speed-of-sound structures.
