I argue that the consistency of any resummation method can be established if the method follows a power counting derived from a hierarchy of scales. I.e., whether it encodes a top-down effective field theory. This resolves much confusion over which resummation method to use once an approximation scheme is settled on. And if no hierarchy of scales exists, you should be wary about resumming. I give evidence from the study of phase transitions in thermal field theory, where adopting a consistent power-counting scheme and performing a strict perturbative expansion dissolves many common problems of such studies: gauge dependence, strong renormalization scale dependence, the Goldstone boson catastrophe, IR divergences, imaginary potentials, mirages (illusory barriers), perturbative breakdown, and linear terms.

  1. Dynamics of nucleation in thermal phase transitions

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The thermal nucleation rate is the transition-state estimate multiplied by one minus the re-crossing probability, and oscillons make that correction large.

  2. Hot news on the phase structure of the SMEFT

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A full O(g^4) dimensional reduction of the dimension-six SMEFT shows that the top-Higgs operator O_tphi can trigger a first-order electroweak phase transition with zero (phi-dagger phi)^3 coupling at zero temperature.

  3. Cosmological phase transitions without high-temperature expansions

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A hard-soft split combined with a finite-temperature Loop-Tree Duality method computes the resummed 4d thermal effective potential without high-temperature expansions, demonstrated in a scalar-Yukawa model.

  4. An Effective Sphaleron Awakens

    hep-ph 2025-06 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A consistent 3D EFT computation of the Higgs phase sphaleron rate yields universal baryon preservation bounds x ≈ 0.025 (strong) and x ≈ 0.036 (weak), and shows two-loop corrections eliminate strong one-step transitio...

  5. Theoretical uncertainties in reconstructing model parameters with gravitational waves from supercooled phase transitions

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In the conformal U(1)_X model, the daisy-resummed nucleation scheme shifts LISA-reconstructed gauge couplings by O(10%) relative to the NLO effective-field-theory result, an order of magnitude above the Fisher-matrix ...

  6. Thermal Resummation for Very Strong First-order Phase Transitions

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

A 2PI-based real-time resummation yields an NLO Abelian-Higgs effective potential for strong phase transitions that passes the leading-order Nielsen gauge-independence test.

  7. Beyond the Daisy Chain: Running and the 3D EFT View of Supercooled Phase Transitions

    hep-ph 2025-11 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

With renormalisation-group running included, the one-loop high-temperature Daisy-resummed potential at µ=πT reproduces the phase-transition parameters of the two-loop dimensionally reduced EFT, while the no-running on...
