Three-dimensional modeling has reached a level of maturity to provide detailed predictions of the gravitational wave emission in neutrino-driven core collapse supernovae. We review the status of these modeling efforts, current predictions for core collapse supernova gravitational wave emission, and the status of algorithms for the detection of core collapse supernova gravitational waves and the estimation of physical parameters associated with these events, which we hope to use to cull information about the central engine.

  1. Trends in gravitational wave emission in axisymmetric simulations of rotating core-collapse supernovae

    astro-ph.HE 2025-12 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Rotating core-collapse supernova simulations produce gravitational waves up to ~3 kHz, whose frequency and amplitude fall with faster rotation, and no resonant amplification is found.

  2. Impact of rotation on the accretion of entropy perturbations in collapsing massive stars

    astro-ph.SR 2025-09 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Rotation has little effect on entropy perturbations falling onto a supernova shock: the sound and vortex waves they create stay below about 1% of the local sound speed, and convective eddies dominate for the modes tha...

  3. Toward More Realistic Machine-Learning Inference of the Dense-Matter Equation of State from Supernova Gravitational Waves

    astro-ph.HE 2026-03 conditional novelty 4.5 of 10

Using a linear SVM, EOS classification from bounce gravitational waves remains robust to real noise, progenitor diversity, and bounce-time uncertainty in the frequency domain, but collapses in the time domain under ti...

  4. All-sky search for short gravitational-wave bursts in the first part of the fourth LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA observing run

    astro-ph.HE 2025-07 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

An all-sky search of O4a LIGO data finds no new gravitational-wave bursts and improves burst sensitivity and rate limits by factors of 2 to 10 over the previous run.

  5. Properties and microscopic structures of dense stellar matter in RMF models

    astro-ph.HE 2025-06 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

A systematic set of equations of state and pasta-phase structures for cold dense stellar matter, tabulated for 13 relativistic mean-field models over a wide range of densities and proton fractions.
