In this period, more than twenty workshops were held and seven regional centres for space science and technology education were established in all regions of the world: Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, Western Asia, and Europe. This effort was undertaken in cooperation with ESA, NASA, JAXA, and 193 member states of the United Nations under the auspices of the UN, also supported by the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) and the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
