We invert directly the redshift - luminosity distribution of observed long Swift GRBs to obtain their rate and luminosity function. Our best fit rate is described by a broken power law that rises like (1+z)^2.1{+0.5-0.6} for 0<z<3 and decrease like (1+z)^-1.4{+2.4-1.0} for z>3. The local rate is 1.3^{+0.6-0.7} [Gpc^-3 yr^-1]. The luminosity function is well described by a broken power law with a break at L* = 10^52.5{+-0.2}[erg/sec] and with indices alpha = 0.2^{+0.2-0.1} and beta = 1.4^{+0.3-0.6}. The recently detected GRB 090423, with redshift ~8, fits nicely into the model's prediction, verifying that we are allowed to extend our results to high redshifts. While there is a possible agreement with the star formation rate (SFR) for z<3, the high redshift slope is shallower than the steep decline in the SFR for 4<z. However we cannot rule out a GRB rate that follows one of the recent SFR models.

  1. The role of the galaxy stellar mass function in determining the cosmological distribution of astrophysical transients with applications to fast radio bursts and merging binary black holes

    astro-ph.HE 2025-12 conditional novelty 6.0

Using the galaxy stellar mass function weighted by observed FRB host masses lowers the relevant stellar-mass density by ~3x, boosting the implied FRB formation efficiency and biasing standard population-inference results.

  2. Reappraisal of the Constraints on Heavy Axion-like Particles from Gamma-Ray Bursts

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 5.0

Realistic GRB parameters weaken previous ALP cooling bounds, but ALP-induced secondary fireballs in GRBs could still be probed via isotropic X-ray emission from future telescopes.

  3. The Sensitivity of PUEO to Cosmogenic Neutrinos and Exotic Physics Scenarios

    astro-ph.HE 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 5.0

PUEO will constrain the proton fraction of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays under strong source evolution and set leading neutrino constraints on ultraheavy dark matter decays and some cosmic string models above 10^19 eV.

  4. Gamma-ray bursts reveal the history and faint contributors of cosmic reionization

    astro-ph.CO 2026-07 conditional novelty 4.0

Long gamma-ray bursts imply a higher cosmic star formation rate density at z>6 than galaxy surveys detect, sufficient to drive reionization with moderate ionizing efficiency and escape fraction, implying a large popul...
