The "true muonium" (mu^+ mu-) and "true tauonium" (tau^+ tau^-) bound states are not only the heaviest, but also the most compact pure QED systems. The rapid weak decay of the tau makes the observation of true tauonium difficult. However, as we show, the production and study of true muonium is possible at modern electron-positron colliders.

Searching for True Muonium in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
The paper predicts effective true muonium production cross sections of 1.23 μb in 200 GeV AuAu and 14.2 μb in 5.02 TeV PbPb collisions, corresponding to O(10^4) and O(10^5) atoms per billion central events.

Production of leptonium in heavy quarkonium decays
J/psi decays can produce ortho-dimuonium at a branching fraction of about 1.5e-12, while Upsilon decays allow tauonium production, with several channels potentially observable at planned facilities.

Creating true muonium via charmonium radiative decay
Predicts Br(J/psi -> gamma + true para-muonium) around 7e-13, implying about 2-3 events per year at the proposed Super Tau-Charm Facility.
