We formulate geometric conditions necessary for engineering 5d superconformal field theories (SCFTs) via M-theory compactification on a local Calabi-Yau 3-fold. Extending the classification of the rank 1 cases, which are realized geometrically as shrinking del Pezzo surfaces embedded in a 3-fold, we propose an exhaustive classification of local 3-folds engineering rank 2 SCFTs in 5d. This systematic classification confirms that all rank 2 SCFTs predicted using gauge theoretic arguments can be realized as consistent theories, with the exception of one family which is shown to be non-perturbatively inconsistent and thereby ruled out by geometric considerations. We find that all rank 2 SCFTs descend from 6d (1,0) SCFTs compactified on a circle possibly twisted with an automorphism together with holonomies for global symmetries around the Kaluza-Klein circle. These results support our conjecture that every 5d SCFT can be obtained from the circle compactification of some parent 6d (1,0) SCFT.

  1. Exact results for 5d SCFTs of long quiver type

    hep-th 2019-09 conditional novelty 8.0 of 10

Analytic saddle-point solutions of the squashed S5 localization matrix model yield exact large-N free energies for long-quiver 5d SCFTs, matching holographic predictions.

  2. Towards Generalized Dimers for GTPs: $\mathcal{N}=2$ Fractional Branes at Infinite Coupling

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

N=2 strip condensation — collapsing parallel zig-zag strips in brane tilings — reproduces the expected number of gauge groups and yields GTP quivers related to toric ones by relevant deformations.

  3. Generalised global symmetries in 5d $\mathcal{N}=1$ theories from the blow-up equations

    hep-th 2026-07 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Fractional exponents of the blow-up prefactor exp(-V_n) on 1-form backgrounds encode cubic and mixed anomalies of 5d N=1 SCFTs, deciding 2-groups versus mixed anomalies once the faithful UV symmetry is known from the index.

  4. 5d Trinions and Tetraons

    hep-th 2026-05 accept novelty 7.0 of 10

The authors construct 5d SCFT trinions and tetraons with D flavor symmetry via M-theory, producing non-linear quivers with instanton symmetry enhancement and ruling out E-type cases.

  5. Remarks on the Higgs Branch of 5d Conformal Matter

    hep-th 2025-02 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The Higgs branches of 5d conformal matter atoms and molecules are computed via magnetic quivers and class-S circle reductions, with matching dimensions across the two methods.

  6. Instantons from Blow-up

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The instanton partition function of many 4d N=2 and 5d N=1 gauge theories is fully determined by the perturbative part via generalized Nakajima-Yoshioka blowup equations.

  7. Higgsing and Twisting of 6d $D_N$ gauge theories

    hep-th 2019-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

The authors construct 5-brane webs for 6d SO(N) SCFTs on -2 and -3 curves and propose webs for Z2-twisted compactifications using Higgs vevs of KK-momentum charged scalars.

  8. (-1)-form symmetries from M-theory and SymTFTs

    hep-th 2024-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

A systematic M-theory construction of SymTFTs for discrete and continuous (-1)-form symmetries, with a new 4-group structure in 4d N=1 SYM from G2 manifolds.

  9. A Crash Course in Supersymmetric Field Theory Across Dimensions

    hep-th 2026-07 unverdicted novelty 2.0 of 10

Pedagogical crash-course notes on supersymmetric field theory across 2–10 dimensions, organized around recurring structures such as holomorphy, dualities, indices, BPS data, and anomalies.
