abstract

Inclusive semileptonic $B\to X_c \ell\bar{\nu}$ decays can be described in the Heavy Quark Expansion (HQE) and allow for a precision determination of the CKM element $|V_{cb}|$. We calculate the terms of $1/m_b^5$ and derive a ``trace formula'' which allows for the computation of the decay rate and kinematic moments of the spectrum up to this order in the HQE. We focus specifically on the reparametrization invariant (RPI) dilepton invariant mass $q^2$ moments of the spectrum, which depend on a reduced set of HQE parameters. At this order, ``intrinsic charm'' (IC) contributions proportional to $1/(m_b^3m_c^2)$ enter, which are numerically expected to be sizeable. Using the ``lowest-lying state saturation ansatz'' (LLSA), we estimate the size of these contributions. Within this approximation, we observe a partial cancellation between the IC and the ``genuine'' $1/m_b^5$ contributions, resulting in a small overall contribution.

  1. $B$-meson decay width up to $1/m_b^3$ corrections within and beyond the Standard Model

    hep-ph 2025-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

Complete analytic HQE matching coefficients for B-meson decay widths up to 1/m_b^3 are derived for generic new-physics operators, including previously missing weak-annihilation terms.

  2. Total decay rates of $B$ mesons at NNLO-QCD

    hep-ph 2024-12 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

At NNLO in QCD, the heavy quark expansion predicts the B+, Bd, and Bs decay widths and semileptonic branching fractions within experimental uncertainties, with a systematic 4% shortfall in the central width values.

  3. Predictions for $b$-baryon lifetimes at NNLO-QCD

    hep-ph 2026-07 accept novelty 6.0 of 10

NNLO-QCD corrections to the free b-quark decay and NLO corrections to dimension-five operators reduce uncertainties in HQE predictions for b-baryon lifetimes, yielding excellent agreement with experiment.

  4. Are Subleading Effects Really Subleading? $B$-Meson Decays in Mesogenesis

    hep-ph 2025-11 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In B-Mesogenesis, formally subleading heavy-quark-expansion corrections to inclusive B decays exceed the leading free-quark decay for dark-fermion masses above about 2–3 GeV, limiting the reliable range of HQE-based c...

  5. Kinematic Moments of $\bar{B}\to X_c \ell \bar{\nu}_\ell$ to Order $\mathcal{O}(\Lambda_{\rm QCD}^5/m_b^5)$

    hep-ph 2025-01 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Analytic HQE moments for inclusive B to X_c l nu are extended to O(Lambda^5/m_b^5), including q^2 moments with a lepton-energy cut, and a CLEO data tension is identified.
