We present new results on the cosmological evolution of unabsorbed (type-1) active galactic nuclei (AGN) selected in the soft (0.5-2 keV) X-ray band. From a variety of ROSAT, XMM-Newton and Chandra surveys we selected a total of ~1000 AGN with an unprecedented spectroscopic and photometric optical/NIR identification completeness. For the first time we are able to derive reliable space densities for low-luminosity (Seyfert-type) X-ray sources at cosmological redshifts. The evolutionary behaviour of AGN shows a strong dependence on X-ray luminosity: while the space density of high-luminosity AGN reaches a peak around z~2, similar to that of optically selected QSO, the space density of low-luminosity AGNs peaks at redshifts below z=1. This confirms previous ROSAT findings of a luminosity-dependent density evolution. Using a rigorous treatment of the optical identification completeness we are able to show that the space density of AGN with X-ray luminosities L_x < 10^45 erg s^-1 declines significantly towards high redshifts.

  1. The most extreme high-z radio quasars in the eRASS:1 X-ray survey

    astro-ph.GA 2026-08 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The team confirmed 39 new high-redshift radio quasars and found that the number of X-ray-selected blazars at z>4 grows with redshift faster than a constant X-ray/radio ratio model, in broad agreement with the IC/CMB model.

  2. The eROSITA X-ray luminosity function of active galactic nuclei

    astro-ph.GA 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

The eROSITA DR2 sample yields a new soft-band AGN X-ray luminosity function spanning eight decades in luminosity to z≈6, with lower low-redshift bright-end densities and higher high-redshift abundances than previous models.

  3. The Sensitivity of PUEO to Cosmogenic Neutrinos and Exotic Physics Scenarios

    astro-ph.HE 2025-12 unverdicted novelty 5.0 of 10

PUEO will constrain the proton fraction of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays under strong source evolution and set leading neutrino constraints on ultraheavy dark matter decays and some cosmic string models above 10^19 eV.

  4. Nuclear Activity and Host Galaxy Properties of Low-Luminosity AGN Identified from VLA Observations

    astro-ph.GA 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

VLA radio-selected LLAGN show 84% optical, 63% X-ray, and 13% infrared detection rates, with black holes ~0.7 dex smaller, accretion rates ~4.2 dex lower, and host galaxies ~0.3 dex lower in stellar mass with ~0.5 dex...

  5. Study of Flat Spectrum Radio Quasars and BL Lacertae Objects as Sources of Diffusive Ultra High-Energy Cosmic Rays

    astro-ph.HE 2025-11 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

BL Lacs remain consistent with UHECR observations while FSRQs are disfavoured by anisotropy and source density mismatches after propagation modeling.

  6. Current constraints from cosmogenic neutrinos on the fraction of protons in UHECRs

    astro-ph.HE 2019-09 conditional novelty 4.0 of 10

Current neutrino limits constrain the combination of proton fraction and source evolution in ultra-high-energy cosmic rays, ruling out large proton fractions together with strong source evolution.

  7. Unveil the nature of JWST-AGN and Little Red Dots with SKAO continuum surveys

    astro-ph.GA 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

SKAO continuum surveys will detect radio emission from JWST AGN and LRDs and distinguish between Compton-thick absorption, intrinsically weak accretion, and dense gas cocoon scenarios.

  8. TeV to PeV neutrinos from AGN coronae

    astro-ph.HE 2024-10 unverdicted novelty 3.0 of 10

A Comptonization model of AGN coronae combined with Monte-Carlo photopion production and cosmological evolution can account for IceCube's ~100 TeV and sub-PeV neutrinos using only photohadronic processes.
