The kinematical setting of spherically symmetric quantum geometry, derived from the full theory of loop quantum gravity, is developed. This extends previous studies of homogeneous models to inhomogeneous ones where interesting field theory aspects arise. A comparison between a reduced quantization and a derivation of the model from the full theory is presented in detail, with an emphasis on the resulting quantum representation. Similar concepts for Einstein-Rosen waves are discussed briefly.

Emergent field theory
Spacetime geometry and Yang-Mills field strengths are generated from phase-space structure functions, yielding modified gravity and gauge theories with no new degrees of freedom.

Image of a quantum-corrected black hole without Cauchy horizons illuminated by a static thin accretion disk
For the no-Cauchy-horizon quantum-corrected metric, a larger quantum parameter produces larger horizon, photon sphere, ISCO, and shadow, with narrower and tighter-spaced photon and lensed rings.
