We critically reexamine the formalism for treating the leading-twist contributions from the two-gluon Fock components occurring in hard processes that involve eta and eta' mesons and establish a consistent set of conventions for the definition of the gluon distribution amplitudes, the anomalous dimensions as well as the projector of a two-gluon state onto an eta or eta' state. We calculate the eta, eta'--photon transition form factor to order alpha_s and show the cancellation of the collinear and UV singularities explicitly. An estimate of the lowest Gegenbauer coefficients of the gluon and quark distribution amplitudes is obtained from a fit to the eta, eta'--photon transition form factor data. In order to elucidate the role of the two-gluon Fock component further, we analyze electroproduction of eta, eta' mesons and the g*g* eta (eta') vertex.

  1. Radiative decays $J/\psi,\,\psi(2S)\rightarrow\gamma\eta^{(\prime)}$ in perturbative QCD with relativistic corrections

    hep-ph 2026-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Order-q² relativistic corrections in pQCD roughly double J/ψ→γη(') rates and favor a smaller mixing angle, while ψ(2S) rates overshoot data and may require coherent ηc mixing.

  2. Form factors and phenomenology of $\boldsymbol{B_{(s)}}$ and $\boldsymbol{D_{(s)}}$ semileptonic decays to $\boldsymbol{\eta}$ and $\boldsymbol{\eta^\prime}$

    hep-ph 2025-07 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

Updated light-cone sum rule form factors for B(s), D(s) to eta(eta') are fitted across the full q^2 range and used to extract V_ub, V_cs and V_cd with precision the authors call comparable to standard analyses.

  3. Central exclusive production of $\eta$ and $\eta'$ mesons in diffractive proton-proton collisions at the LHC within the tensor-pomeron approach

    hep-ph 2025-06 conditional novelty 5.0 of 10

The tensor-pomeron model predicts 0.3 to 0.7 microbarn cross sections for central eta-prime production at the LHC, and shows that scalar-pomeron models forbid eta, eta-prime, and f1 production entirely.
