We consider the probem of gauging discrete symmetries. All valid constraints on such symmetries can be understood in the low energy theory in terms of instantons. We note that string perturbation theory often exhibits global discrete symmetries, which are broken non-perturbatively.

  1. A High-Quality Axion from Exact SUSY Chiral Dynamics

    hep-ph 2025-08 conditional novelty 7.0 of 10

A supersymmetric chiral gauge theory stabilized by anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking produces a composite QCD axion whose Peccei-Quinn symmetry is protected by a discrete gauge symmetry.

  2. Pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone inflation with $Z_N$ symmetric waterfall fields

    hep-ph 2026-05 unverdicted novelty 6.0 of 10

Hybrid inflation model with Z_N-symmetric waterfall fields cancels quadratic radiative corrections for any N and logarithmic ones for N>2, yielding a stable inflaton potential and domain-wall-free reheating via Higgs-...

  3. On discrete gauging and non-invertible selection rules

    hep-th 2025-07 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

Fields labeled by conjugacy classes of Z3- and S3-gauged finite groups obey non-invertible fusion selection rules with residual automorphism symmetries.

  4. Quantum aspects of non-invertible flavor symmetries in intersecting/magnetized D-brane models

    hep-th 2024-12 conditional novelty 6.0 of 10

In magnetized and intersecting D-brane models on T^2/Z2, the D4 symmetry from a non-invertible flavor symmetry survives loop corrections and instanton-generated n-point couplings for even fluxes with trivial Scherk-Sc...

  5. The Polymorphic Chiral Anomaly

    hep-ph 2026-06 unverdicted novelty 4.0 of 10

Derives a generic chiral anomaly formula incorporating multiple Feynman diagrams, from which abelian, singlet, consistent, and covariant forms follow, with topological discussion and FeynCalc code.
