The Widom line in the Ising model on a decorated bilayer lattice

Bruno Tomasello, Joseph Chapman, Justas Gidziunas, Sam Carr

Claims

C1strongest claim

We show that the pseudo-transitions of the one-dimensional models become a real first order phase transition in this two-dimensional analogue. Moreover, the pseudo-transition is found to still exist above a bi-critical point. This can be characterised as a Widom line.

C2weakest assumption

The decorated bilayer lattice extension from one dimension preserves the essential pseudo-transition physics without new artifacts dominating the thermodynamics, and that the numerical or analytical identification of the first-order transition and bi-critical point is accurate.

C3one line summary

The Ising model on a decorated bilayer lattice turns one-dimensional pseudo-transitions into a real first-order phase transition, with the pseudo-transition surviving as a Widom line above the bi-critical point.
