abstract

The performance of the ATLAS muon trigger system is evaluated with proton-proton collision data collected in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. It is primarily evaluated using events containing a pair of muons from the decay of $Z$ bosons. The efficiency of the single-muon trigger is measured for muons with transverse momentum 25 < $p_T$ < 100 GeV, with a statistical uncertainty of less than 0.01% and a systematic uncertainty of 0.6%. The $p_T$ range for efficiency determination is extended by using muons from decays of $J/\psi$ mesons, $W$ bosons, and top quarks. The muon trigger shows highly uniform and stable performance. The performance is compared to the prediction of a detailed simulation.

  1. Measurement of the Higgs boson decay to a low-mass dilepton system and a photon in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 and 13.6 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    hep-ex 2026-08 accept novelty 5.0

Combined Run-2+Run-3 ATLAS measurement of H to ell ell gamma (m_ll < 30 GeV) gives mu = 1.03 (+0.35/-0.32) with 3.4 sigma observed (3.3 sigma expected) significance, consistent with the Standard Model.

  2. Search for heavy neutral leptons in decays of W bosons produced in 13 TeV pp collisions using prompt signatures in the ATLAS detector

    hep-ex 2025-08 accept novelty 4.0

The ATLAS search finds no evidence of heavy neutral leptons in W boson decays and sets the strongest limits to date on their mixing with electron and muon neutrinos in the 15-30 GeV mass range.
