These notes are based on lectures at the PSSCMP/PiTP summer school that was held at Princeton University and the Institute for Advanced Study in July, 2015. They are devoted largely to topological phases of matter that can be understood in terms of free fermions and band theory. They also contain an introduction to the fractional quantum Hall effect from the point of view of effective field theory.

  1. Engineering of Anyons on M5-Probes via Flux Quantization

    hep-th 2025-01 unverdicted novelty 6.0

Flux quantization of the M5-brane tensor field in twisted Cohomotopy yields Pontrjagin homology observables that reproduce abelian Chern-Simons theory and braid actions on defect anyons.

  2. Algebraic Realisation of the Zamolodchikov Metric in Narain Theories

    hep-th 2024-12 unverdicted novelty 5.0

The Zamolodchikov metric in Narain CFTs is realized using the Cartan matrix K_g and its inverse from finite-dimensional Lie algebras g.
